I guess there was need to do it publicly simply cause of these business relationships. Either way according to many in sports media they personally felt he owed them apologies for the image he portrayed. The image was built by the media, he just went out and tried to be a good golfer. I think the real problem is that he was a 'hero' or a 'role model' who didn't live up to peoples unrealistic expectations.... Its true he had to apologize, to those impacted by his actions.
